Yes Thank you I've been wondering that myself, may I ask you a question though, why do you climb on a closed system with the crane, don't you find it slows you down as compared to a spliced end with a split tail?

I use that simple closed system because I feel that I'm actually faster with it.
I expected someone to ask that question.
When i need the rope to be removed from the crane, I untie the prussic knot and untie the two half hitches from the snap and pull that short amount of rope from crane.
On an open system (like picture in attachment) I could still untie from my snap, or if i had a spliced eye, unclip from that eye but then pull the rope through the prussic cord. That pulling of the rope through the prussic cord/pulley and re-attaching to the snap seems to take me longer. I guess it shouldn't, but seems to get messy sometimes.
And I actaully don't like all that extra junk to deal with if re-tying often.
I do use both open and closed systems with tree work, but for crane work and most removals, I use the closed simple system.
Around 2002 or 03 I made myself use a prussic cord and micro-pulley with tying a french prussic for almost a whole season. It's okay but I pretty much went back to a simple closed system you saw in the crane attachment pictures.
I actaully like the loose 4 coil knott on the closed system.
Most modern climbers hate it and are scared of the loose movement.
I do set up an open system with prussic cord and hitch climber pulley (as shown in this 2009 picture) when I have a very large tree to trim and a lot of far out limbwalking. It would probably be the system of choice if I was around electric lines too.
Maybe MattyD can comment on if he thinks my use of the closed system for crane tie in is fast or slow.
MattyD just did his first pine removal with our k-boom last week. He used his prussic cord and hitch climber pulley with an open system. I remember thinking to myself when I was watching; that removing the rope from the crane and re-tying into the tree took a little while longer then when I do it with my simple closed system.
Maybe I should try an open system on the crane again to re-evaluate the speed. But since I don't used spliced eye climbing ropes, tying to my snap or biner will likely slow down the process. I tie to my snap with a bowline and finish the tail with two half hitches since i don't use eye spliced climbing ropes.
