paclobutrazol pics

Went to the same property yesterday to prune a red maple and noticed that the paclobutrazol treated elms were WAY lodaed with samaras, where the untreated had very few. Safe to say that paclobutrazol can increase seed production! (homeowners not too happy about that)

I hate to burst anyone's bubble here, but stressed trees reproduce harder than un-stressed trees. Very often a fruit tree will offer its best crop last. Excessive seed production is often a sign of stress... A species, when threatened, will reproduce.

I'm not sure what the connection with paclo and fruit production is, haven't researched it? I do remember a sales rep telling me it might happen though.

Tom, I've definitely noticed major acorn production when some oaks are on their way out.

Paclobutrazol inhibits GA. When stressed, the ratio of ABA becomes higher than GA. Thus, you turn on genes that result from stress when using a GA inhibitor.
