Omni Swivel Block

So I'm thinking about getting this:

Someone posted a thread a while back about how small and convenient they are. It got me thinking about it and I want to get one. But, I was wondering from the people that have them how they attach it to a sling. The eye where the rope goes on the block has some shard edges that looks like they could cut a rope when loaded. Do you just put a beaner in their? Because that just becomes a hassle in my opinion. Or, can I put a rope thimble around the eyelet on the block and do a fishermans knot to attach it? Help me out people.

They do look smooth, but I also don't have one. The girth hicth attachment wouldn't seem to be to bad in many cases.

Iv'e always been looking at buying one for climbing on, but was always reluctant b/c the easy release.(have they changed it?).

Does any one climb off these? ( iv'e seen one persons pic before that did, but maybe not anymore)

Dan, I'm really sorry that I'm derailing your thread, let me know and I'll delete. just always been curious about this block

I do have one but, since I switched to SRT, it's not seen much use - obvious, right?

Anyway, I girthed some 8mm Blue Water to it and took a couple of close-ups.
It's extremely well made and has a two step lock which, supposedly, makes it climb rated. And, yes, the ring is smooth enough.
Hope this helps.

The edges are smooth enough for rope that's how my buddy runs his >I just received mine and got stuck doing phc this week so i dont even get to use mine . oh well biner between just adds more length but a whoopie or loopie girth hitched right to the omni will do just fine be safe and God Bless

I was excited to get it to try and keep my climbing line un-twisted but to me it actually caused more twists. When the rope twists it actually ends up putting more twists in the rope than a stationary pulley. Have not used it for zip-lining purposes yet but I don't think it's worth the money for minding a climbing line!

I was the guy that posted the original thread about the swivel block. I had mine spliced into some amsteel on an adjustable loopie. I love it for redirecting the rigging line when I might not be able to get really comfy body position. It's awesome for that. But don't forget what Norm warned about with this setup, that the bend at the piece of hardware is tight and that's not ideal. Sorry I haven't been able to get the pics up.
