Omni-Block 1.5

The Omni is not for negative blocking. That is what impact blocks are for.

As far as the sling losing strength due to multiple wraps vs. a regular choked girth hitch, I think it would be negligible.

Sorry, I missed this post until now, but what Logic said is true, you wouldn't use this block for negative rigging. The thread reads a good deal about how we use it, which eliminates shock loads.

Another thing this block rules at is being used as a redirect in rigging, even a redirect behind a block in a negative rigging scenario. I've done it numerous times. I have a nice setup for mine which is a 16 strand E 2 E sling (small ring in one eye), and a carabiner. This allows me to use it in so many configurations, including a choke, which come unreal handy for a redirect on a rigging line, or even when winching a crown together for cabling. A Pinto Rig is nice with that as well, but either block makes a nice redirect, just don't go dumping heavy wood right into it.

Here's a sequence of pictures showing how we used the omni block today. Horizontal limb over house that needed to be stood up.

And here's the rigging point and how we achieved mechanical advantage to lift the limb (in addition to the omni). Probably better ways to do this but it worked in a pinch.

EDIT: Weird. Don't know how this got here twice but I didn't post it.

I know, if only I had a GRCS. One day when the account is nice and full I'll take that step. I figured I'd show some other uses for the Omni.

Is the rigging whoopie available of is that a custom job?

Sorry Steve I missed your post. I assume you mean the whoopie sling on the white impact block. Thanks to the buzz I make all my own now. Tenex is too easy to splice and so much cheaper when bought at length.

There are different ways to do it for sure, but not necessarily better. I have two GRCS's at my disposal, but would have done the limb you pictured the same way.

I am a firm believer in making things only as complicated as necessary and not one bit more! (My take on the Einstein quote!)

Nice plan, nice work,

Tony

I was referring to the whoopie in toms video. Thimble and 2 steel rings. I have thought about learning to splice but I figured it would end up like my bonzi tools I have no time to use. Lol

Sorry if I missed this and am repeating it but tom's whoopie is great I love working remotely as much as I can.

Steve another even better in my opinion is check out more of toms videos and you will see he orders a lg xrr from xman already spliced onto the tenex then turn that into a whoopie this replaces the 2 steel rings then by all means still add your thimble or just biner your block into the big eye.

Tom shows this idea but with a big block (video X/CMI heavy duty rigging whoopie)

Now this may throw some people off cause of the mixed match size but I personally like the size of 1/2" tenex for a lot that I do but i also really like how the beast xrr works.
The lg ring is just as good but I like the beast. This makes it very easy to retrieve and makes a huge bend radius.
Also one of my newest go to rigging slings is a 1/2" double braid with a lg steel ring (need to order more xrrs) on one end and a steel quick link on the other end that install my small block through the screw gate. This setup is not only cheaper than a biner but I like how close and not floppy the block is but still rated plenty good enough.
This can also easily be made out of tenex. I have a small steel cmi block but the idea is all the same and I love using it. I should mention this is usually in basket form but with a lot of the recent ice storm damage a bonus of the steel ring is it will slip into the quick link above the block and it can be cow hitched any where but on that note with a xrr you could still cow hitch it on a topless stem.

Hope this helps and big thanks to Tom for his videos they have opened my option and ideas up hugely. If anyone hasn't seen them grab some popcorn and have a movie night.
