I'm sorry and suprized of a hand injury - haven't been keeping-up with all the threads. Hope it'll be okay.
On the birthday thing - well, we're getting there. We got wisdom, which is something that doesn't come easily thru youth...even though we'll probably forget a lot of what happened before...we're more gentle on thinking and easier with life - that's worth a lot I think. After a certain stage (or age), we accept the kudos and congrats from others for these momentous moments - it's just not important to label them specifically to how many we've had until maybe the early 90's or so...then it's milestones of success of some sort. 'Til then, we're just part of and witness to - a lot of stuff.
And the redeeming part of the downhill side of over half a century? There's pills we can take now that'll give us a break and movies are cheaper to get into (Senior discount for Avatar was offered and it blew me away!).
Think achievement, that's worth something nothing else can buy.
