Old school v.s. New school

I agree, srt is generally way more efficient working the tree. It allows better movement throughout the canopy which in turn promotes better rigging setups. Personally I find myself much less tired and therefore making better decisions and not taking any shortcuts.
Why not tryout a hybrid device that will allow you to do both? I am using a hitchhiker and can instantly change from srt to ddrt. It's awesome to be able to switch doing crane work or when you're working down a spar.
Exactly my thoughts.
Just add a rope wrench to your hitchclimber set up and voilà. You don't need to have a foot and knee ascender, but once you've tried that on a long ascent, you'll probably love it.
Just different tool configurations.

If you really think about doubled rope, the only way it's different from single, or static rope is that your anchor point is yourself. This gives you a 2:1 advantage. I find that 2:1 advantage useful in some cases.
The disadvantage is extra friction.
So, different configurations for different situations.
