How old is the oldest climber you know and how old is the oldest one you've heard of.
When I first started doing trees, all the guys I worked with would complain and moan about their bodies being broke, and they would say couldn't do trees much longer. Those guys weren't even old, the oldest was barely 40. Now that I work for a bigger company I see guys well into their 50's climbing and recently heard about a gentleman that is retired,73, and still does contract climbs. This is the kind of thing I hope to achieve with exercise and eating generally healthy, even though all the guys at work make fun of me for it.

One of my old bosses, OG arborist and erstwhile ISA president Al Cherry, was climbing into his mid seventies, although he's since passed the torch. This is a guy who has been is business so long he used to do ALL of Asplundh's stump grinding; let that soak in for a second.

Tom D and I are both 62, Treevet is a few years older than we are and there are a couple more of us hanging around. Al Cherry is an old friend of mine also. Been a few years since I've seen him. By your post I assume he is still kicking.?

God bless uncle Hugh! I wish I could last till 83. I was in a major car wreck 25 yrs ago. Basically broke the left side of my body. Within 6 mons I started roofing and started tree working 10 yrs later. For the last 25 I have been abusing my body in 2 different strenuous ways. I seriously do not know how much more daily grind I can take. I'm buying a bucket ASAP.
And as far as eating right and staying healthy ... your body will reward you. Over half the crap consumed by humans is toxic. Live healthy and be safe.

I've put in for 90-95 years, to be active and sharp as a tack and die in my sleep and it has been approved. My aunt is 101 and just moved into a care facility last year. Up to that point she lived alone in a garage apartment owned by her granddaughter. She gave up driving at 97 although she still could drive.

That's freaking awesome! I had a great grandma hit 109. Although I don't remember a lot of my toddler years, she was quite healthy.

He is indeed, and still keeps a comb in his back pocket, although he didn't recognize me at this year's PA symposium...on the other hand I am +1 beard and -1 pair of glasses since he last saw me. There is probably a picture floating around of the Arbor Day service event a year or two ago when they had Al and John Ward the eldest and some other elder statesmen plant a tree in the ISA memorial grove in West Fairmount Park.
