OK to remove BIG limb from pin oak?

I've never charged anyone for doing tree work because I don't want the hassle of running a business. If they'll let me climb their trees and get some good physical and mental exercise, the least I can do is a little useful work.
The least they can do is donate some part of the value to charity, if financially capable!

When you get to be our age and retired, but still love doing tree work, it will all make sense. I still get paid to work from time to time, but when a neighbor or friend needs some tree work I am happy to offer up my services free of charge because I still love doing it, and it makes for good neighbors to boot.

I don’t mean to sound harsh @Winchman. If anything it’s a “know your worth” kind of deal and to avoid being taken advantage of.

I appreciate that you look for input here and I’ll always gladly put in my .02, which is probably not even worth that much.

How much safer I would be without the work aspect, I don't know. Climbing is inherently dangerous, and having a purpose makes it feel more justified to me.
Sure, but a rec climb you’re taking the cutting aspect out of the picture. In my opinion that makes it drastically safer, and I’d put money on it being statistically safer as well. What happens when an accident occurs doing work for free?

I looked it up a couple years ago, and my chance of dying for any reason at my age was around 1 in 7000 each day, and that's just from waking up. The chance from dying for a professional tree worker was around 1 in 300,000, so my part-time little job stuff really doesn't increase my chance of dying very much. The benefits probably outweigh the risks. A tree work accident is a just one more item on the long list of things that could put me in really bad shape at my age.

I don't even think about being taken advantage of. How can you take advantage of someone who is lucky enough to be able to do what I do at my age just for fun and satisfaction? Just can't happen. The advantage is all mine.

Fair enough! I respect this.
