Oh my Oak

Over the weekend my Park Recreation staff was backing a truck and trailer down a walkway and decided to trim about 3 small (1-2 inches) limbs off a nice Pin Oak. Oak Wilt is quite prevalent in this town, but injections are not going to be an option. Is it worth removing more for the sake of being able to treat the cuts, or am I better off leaving it alone and hoping for the best?

Thanks in advance for the advise!

Ouch!

I'd recommend making a proper collar cut and then paint with a latex paint

Dr Jenny Juzwick found that infection from spores in the air had to happen within long minutes. Within short hours the trees physiology has reacted to the wound and shut down vascular flow

Better to make a second cut now and paint. The physiology at a collar is so much better for isolating a wound than it is at a broken stub

Take pictures for your own CYA showning that you followed due dilligence

Shellac was recommended at an oakwilt workshop I went to last year. If removing the larger branch now, maybe leave a stub and tightly tape a plastic bag around the end, then make the finish cut later in the fall

Do you have a camera? It's in that thing in your pocket.

Cuts to (preferably upright) laterals are often better than cuts at the attachments. Size of wound matters, a lot.
