Oak tree report has me ""stumped"

High strength low stretch rope like tight braid dyneema. Any other type of rope is foolery. The stretch will exhaust you.
Highest angle or horizontal as possible helps
Get on a roo if you have to.

To understand pull tests you need to read a bunch of background papers, start with this publication: http://www.isa-arbor.com/store/product.aspx?ProductID=91

Once you understand how pulling the tree causes a change in root plate angle or fibre length and how it is measured than you can think about how you pulling on a rope will tell you if the root plate/collar is the first place of investigation or a cavity at 45 feet. I think you will find that measurements are made in fractions of a degree and millimetres, if you can measure this by eye and relate this to the force you exerted (remember that your pulling force does not create an equivalent force at the tree due to angle) to determine if the tree is safe or which defect to investigate good luck.

Do not mix this with a "pull test" advocated by certain tree climber trainers.

What I recommend is in essence mimicking mother nature. Push and pull. Simpling pulling can give insight. Rocking the tree provides greater insight.
