Oak removal

Oak tree removal yesterday. It is often said that crane work is easy.....well, this was actually quite a tough job. I didn’t leave the site until near 7pm and was done-in.
Apart from shedding a couple of limbs more recently this was a perfectly healthy and grand specimen....but there was clearly something wrong with the owners who found it intolerable, and wouldn’t be convinced otherwise. So that was that.
Although there were lots more lifts and similar photo’s, there are just too many to show them all. Anyway here’s a bunch, 17 in total so give me a while to upload them. Thanks

Yes to both. Will I see you there? I'll be on the Stein USA stall. Thanks

Wow, that was a nice looking Oak tree. Too bad it had to come down. Very nice work.

Looks like you used the 3120 up in the tree. Those were some big picks. I'm sure you were tired after that job.

Great job!

Reg,
nice work as per norm!
Such a nice tree!!! Sucks to see it be removed...but if the higher powers give approval/reason for such a majestic speciman to be removed i
would do the job with honour and respect to the tree(but at the same time mumbling to myself that i wish i had enough money to get what i want)

As others have said... such a beautiful tree to be taking down.

Can't wait for the video Reg you do great work can't wait to say hi in Pittsburgh.

Thanks all,

Randy the two logs at the end were just over 4 tons each. The crane is 35t but appears much bigger.

Norm, we switched to the Big hook for those two logs. It is rigged at 5:1 from memory, I assume thats what you're asking. The small hook is only good for 4 ton and I knew those logs would be borderline. At that distance we actually had the capacity to take about 9 ton but wouldn't have been able to reach out far enough to lay it out in the road.

Our slings were a little short at the end (last photo), notice how they are joined to 2 others. I took the time to cut them in also as they were set quite high on the log.

That was a good move on connecting them slings together.
I don't know if I would have thought about that.
Greet work,

The cutting-in gives a little more tail-length on the slings also. Thanks again

I have a question. After watching your countless videos and seeing all the pictures you have posted here at Treebuzz, there is something different going on in the pictures posted here. It is something I haven't yet seen in anything you have posted. Is that clear skies I see? Is that the sun showing it's self? I do see some clouds in a few pictures, but I do see blue skies!!!! How are you able to deal with something so abormal as nice weather? Nice work, Reg. See you at TCIA.

I did notice the slings linked together with the screw pin shackles. Those are huge logs for a 35 ton crane. The biggest I've taken is 16,800 lbs. on a 75 ton with the line 2 parted and I thought those were big. Nine ton, WOW!
Thanks Reg.
