POSITION: Grounds Specialist – Chemical Applicator

SHIFT: Varies, year-round

SALARY: Appropriate Rate per Collective Bargaining Agreement, new employees start at $20.04/hour.

TERM: Full time – 12 months

EFFECTIVE DATE: As soon as possible

Areas of Responsibility:
1. Assist other grounds workers with lining fields as needed.
2. Snow removal from mall area, entrances, parking areas and all sidewalks.
3. Pick up litter from around building and adjacent streets, including the parking garage and Lake Street field.
4. Repair and maintenance of all grounds equipment.
5. Keep school vans clean inside and out, including changing oil, lube, checking tires and all fluids per schedule.
6. Must have a valid State of Illinois driver’s license.
7. Must be able to operate a manual transmission vehicle.
8. Aerate, slit seed and maintain all fields, which includes programming and running irrigation.
9. Help clean west end of stadium.
10. Keep lower tree limbs and bushes trimmed.
11. Must be able to read and apply field diagrams according to National Federation State High School Association.
12. Must be able to work in inclement weather. Also, self-motivation and good initiative skills required.
13. Perform inside custodial duties as required.
14. Perform other duties as assigned by your supervisor.

This person must be prepared to work flexible hours during the long school holidays, summer,
emergency snow removal, or when one of the other grounds men is off due to vacation or extended
illness.

Qualifications:
Commercial applicator's or public pesticide applicator's and operator’s license preferred.
2 years previous experience in laying out and lining sports fields at the high school level.
Previous experience in driving snowplows and snow removal equipment
Previous experience required for driving trucks, tractors, skid loaders or other implements.
Basic mechanical experience required (trouble shooting, changing oil, fluids, batteries tires etc.)
Must be able to drive a manual transmission
Basic skills in school bus operations and Illinois legal requirements for buses.
Math skills, basic computer skills.
