How do you guys prefer to take notes on a larger job, or just a job where you would like to jot down a couple of things?

I've tried the clipboard and pen/pencil, for me it didn't work because it felt awkward.

I've tried the hand held tape recorder which worked well, the only problem is that I tend to ramble.

I've seen people use digital cameras, but the problem there is that you can't take notes

I've seen some of you guys use video cameras, which seem like they give you both picture and notes.

I use all the above at times, and one that was not on the list: a 5x8 waterproof pad that fits in the side pocket of my work pants (along with camera, phone, etc.)

In the tree I use camera the most, on the ground on consultations I've been using the digital audiorecorder and burning a cd so the client can use a portable cd player to review as they walk from tree to tree. Trying to move up to video and dvd now.

I figure this will add a lot of value to consultations with little added expense. Also may spur followup work as they will want an ongoing series to show the growth over the years.

Note pad and digital camera for me.

See attached picture worth a thousand words.
