That practice was discredited and supposedly stopped by reputable arbos during the Thirties!

Filling decay pockets with water would be the best thing possible. Decay microorganisms are aerobic. They don't live underwater.

It sounds like a few people need to pull their Shigo books off the shelf and read up on wood decay.
 
So Tom you are going to fill up hole with water in the summer? Moisture is going to equal rot. I did something about it. I seen alot of trees with concrete and the looked good. Thirties? are you joking? People weren't worried about holes in trees, they were thinking about what they were going to eat.

Where did you learn about concrete in trees? This is going to require an answer longer than a few sentences.

What do you understand about CODIT?

Read up on the antiquated and discredited practice of filling with concrete. Google will do most of your research.

What Shigo books do you own?
 
didn't you say the thirties though? In certain cases I think that it is useful, others not. The thought that it isn't good because it doesn't provide a tight seal and allows moisture? Not good enough for me.

Instead of saying stupid remarks, why doesn't someone say something intelligent? Other remedies, perhaps. Ya 1974 alright and everyone is ten.
 
A hollow oak tree died from construction damage.

After taking out the top I could flop the trunk...routine.

I put the face cut in and my saw dulled immediately. I didn't feel anything hard. When I pulled the saw out of the kerf I saw washed river sand coming out. After dulling a couple more chains getting the face cut opened I emptied ten wheelbarrows of sand out of the trunk.

The sand had to be hoisted about 12-15' up to pour it into the hollow.

Tree was still dead.
 
so your pissed that you dulled a couple chains? I could tell you guys that made comments that were of no help or importance what you are, but that's just pointless. I tell you what your NOT......Teachers!!
