No lunch?

We do. I'm proud to work for who I do. (Most days) their extremely good about training. It's just been a busy year

Did a big crane job today. Lunch was a must and made the difference in getting it done. The break gave me an opportunity to rehydrate, reduce my core temp and just relax and refresh. Nothing overly heavy for lunch. Had I just pushed through, I'm afraid I would've been a bigger hazard to the drivers sharing i80 for an hour with me! Now it's time for the Environmental Commission meeting. Day's not over yet.

Hello from Mexico City.

In my crew we start the day together with a ligth breakfast at 7:00, at the same time we make the work plan. Then we take a one hour break at 13:00 for take some fast food, soda, some candy and a lot of water. Finally, we finish the working day at 17:00. All food and water that the crew take during the working day is suplied by the company, but sometimes everyone brings some food from home and shares it with the crew.
Although all crews here are diferent, almost all of them make the same routine, and not just the tree work crews but all the field workers.

Welcome Adrian. Really....so is it a common practice for bosses or companies to provide food for employees in Mexico? If so, that would have never occured to me. I'm always amazed at how different we all are and how we think.

Not in a bad way, it's fine enough as long as we remember it. But, I'm just going along in life and one minute later just assuming everybody thinks like I do.

To original post: I carry water and am drinking all day while I climb and work. At lunch I do a lighter meal, salad usually, and back to work in 15 or 20 minutes before my body cools down or adrenaline/endorphin pump drops too low.

Back to you Adrian, sorry to hear Mexico City got hit so hard by the recent earthquake. Did that make your tree work that much more of a high priority or is it still about the same?

I start the day every day with fruit or juice. Then I learned many many years ago from a doctor that if you are fastidious about eating a portion of meat with breakfast you don't get hungry at lunch. So it has worked for me with just a good complete breakfast and a complete meal for supper. I am with the formal lunch makes you lethargic group. I give plenty of breaks and it is difficult if not impossible to find a specific time to schedule lunch that fits, so I just tell my guys to bring food, eat at breaks and I won't add the lunch time at the end of the day which after a 8 30 start (civilized) we rarely work past 4 pm in the lot time.

It seems to go back and forth. Would discretion of the foreman be unfair? Where I work there seems to be a hesitation to let it happen. Probably because it's a law. For any owners or management here do you see a problem with this being more normal. Or do you find a uniform lunchtime is more effective?

Cry me a river right?

My point is, whether I take one or not during the day, most crew members are going to want to take one.

I spend many days driving from A to B so those days don't get a dedicated break time.

Heathens Jack, heathens.

I still do a lot of pruning, injections, and soil work. Sweatin or freezin with the rest of us buzzards.

Certainly prefer the geeky side truth be told but work is work.

We take 15 mins at 930 to 10 most days depending on the climber/s we adjust accordingly. Then 3o mins at 12 give or take again adjusting for the climber most days we can get damn close to being dead on.

We normally eat our "lunches" at break then snack at lunch it seems to keep your energy up through out the day, instead of getting your second wind at the end of the day for the drive home...
We also work through lunch fairly often but we get paid we write no lunch on the time sheet so they don't take time out.

Wage theft, including having people work through lunch unpaid, is estimated at 8 billion dollars per year. Just saying, if you work thru lunch, make damn sure you're being paid for your time.

I like volunteering, just don't do it to make someone else richer or get a job done within budget.
