Nice little project for a HOT day off

This was a neat little project for a hot day. This lady contacted me about putting a swing up for her young son. She had originally wanted it in a magnolia at the corner of her lot, but with power lines (primary and secondary) in the top I suggested she look for another tree. We talked about how to mount the swing, she had done research and decided bolting it to the tree was better then wrapping it with rope. I suggested Cobra, she was all for trying it out because it was less invasive to her tree. We located another tree (with no lines) in front of the house and began. This picture is of both lines installed no swing yet.

This is the almost completed product. Unfortunately the camera ran out of batteries so I dont have a picture of the completed swing. But you can get the gist.

I don't know how much you have worked with cobra cable. From our experience it doesn't quite work as advertized, we have to go back and adjust the rope around the stem ever couple of years because they seem to be girdling. I would def keep an eye on them. Especially if the thought was to not use rope to prevent that very thing.

Nice work. Although being cobra I'm glad I'm not paying the bill!
(or is this an ingenious way of using up the old leftover bits?

You've inspired me to post photos of the tireswing I put up for my kids:

1/2" treepro anchored at the base to an inverted J-lag. The line goes up about 40 feet then horizontal out about 15 feet and back down to the swing. Each contact with the tree is covered with cobra hose.
I figure this was a good way for using a not-totally-ideal-strength limb by spreading out the load. It also makes adjusting it really easy.
The kids swing about a 40 foot pendulum end to end!

Old free tire, retired line, about $20 in hardware, and a 3-strand splice.

Treebing & Robinia, It wasnt as bad as you would think. I used Cobra mini (1322#) and the bill was only $150 which included a 1" crown clean, and tree safety inspection.
Derrick, I havent used Cobra a lot but for now each customer gets an explanation of what is in their tree, what it does and what to expect from it. Also I make very clear to them that each system needs to be inspected every year (my cable systems are every 2 years). So far it has gone well. Ill let you know what I find next year when I go back.
It also gets me back on the property to take care of other trees. If I am doing more work they get the inspection for free, if I have to go out specifically for the inspection its $75. Thanks for the comments.
Robinia - nice swing too... I like the tire.
