nice cut for hung trees

the leaner in the snow was done like that because repeated cuts droping the trunk would shock the tree it was pushed against. The catch tree was really bent a lot.

It was cut like that to minimize damage to that catch tree.

the hinge did not want to start because there was SO much pressure pushing back and i did not cut it for gravity to help.

I did not want a notch directly on top and fold it that way with gravity, because i didn't want it to go while I was near it, the top could come back and get me.

yes, the grcs could not get the hinge to start by itself, i had to drop it to stimulate the hinge and it did hinge.

Nice job to protect the other tree, BUT... even with all that force pushing back.. where did the but go when cut???? Point is, if there is enough mass to bend other trees, then the leaner is going to be so heavy that the but will drop straight down... as it gets straight its going to get lighter on the holding tree, so push back will be minimal..

Correct.

My leaner in the snow was heavy enough that the only direction it was going to go was down. With that amount of weight, there was no way it was going to be pushed back.

sorry if it seemed I was saying anything different on THAT tree.

It takes a thin lightweight tree that is bent and under tension to usually push back.

like in my drawing.

X, if your gonna try and get you know who to understand your point, try crayons or play-doh. If that doesn't work try running up and down a flight of stairs a dozen times then make a video.

Cut the darn thing, choke the butt-end low and drag it back. It'll roll out or off, and skips all the screwing around.

It's not arboriculture, it's logging 101. Sheesh.

Here's a breakdown of this thread, and pretty much any Dadio thread
The Daniel- "here is a video of me doing something that most tree guys do every day, but they don't film it. I've been doing this thing for 30 years, but trust me, I'm a revolutionary"

Everyone else- "that looked unnecessarily dangerous, there are other ways to do that"

The Daniel - "you all were wearing diapers when I invented this move. I'm thinking outside the box, you have no idea how cheap Ricks is, and how many felons they have working for them."

Everyone else - "?"
