new video

G'day,
just a video of a job we did last year, basically precut the limbs and then crane them off later to save traffic congestion. video can be found

I've been putting this description with the video, but am yet to actually put it on the website. I will one year...

I've cut together a very short edit of 1 of 3 trees we did last year, on a job in grants picnic ground.
(it was actually four if you include the pre-job tree).

Due to being a very busy tourist area, the job had to be done as quickly as possible, remain open and also have minimal interference with traffic.

The solution was to get to the job well before peak hour traffic, and pre-rig and cut all the major branches from a tower (180').
This meant that when the crane and chipper arrived, the crane only had to setup once, and there was no lost time in cutting branches.
The chipper backed straight up into the lowering section, and branches could be lowered with the crane straight to the chipper.

Since the heads were already cut and statically hanging, there was no need to stop traffic again.

As the larger wood starts to come down, chipper is moved and log truck is loaded with right next to crane.

Everybody was off the job by 3pm, thus missing the end of school peak and the next wave of tourist buses.

The dark start of the video is at about 5am, Graeme had another tree about 100m away that also needed to be done, and since the travel tower was all he needed to do it, he did that before he went and pre-rigged the other three trees.

Another great video Angus.

Thanks for making the effort, and taking the time to put your work on display for others to view.

A job very well done, you guys clearly think outside the box

Excellent work guys. You make big trees like that look easy, which takes a long time to achieve

I was wondering why you guys were hanging up the tops there. But, I soon found out that the trees were too tall for the crane to pick them

Man! those are tall trees!

Sherbrooke Tree vids are Must-See!

Those eucs are serious trees.

Angus, no pics of the trunk sections being cut???? Bummer!

Part of the problem is the height, but a bigger issue is that you can't do dynamic lifts right next to the main road without stopping traffic. By hanging everything up there:
1. Rigging is done in one hit (not while crane sits there waiting)
2. Traffic stopped for each cut (instead of entire lift cycle)
3. Branches are *static* (well... you know.

)

Tower moves in for one setup, and does lift after lift, crew works flatout processing in between lifts and stem sections can be lowered straight onto truck.

Doing it this way dramatically reduces downtime for crew and crane, takes pressure away from Graeme in the tower, and reduces traffic disruption to almost nothing.

Unfortunately not, in the long edit I had a couple of the larger lifts, but the first lift was the only one to make the short edit. I really needed a wide angle lens that day, but I left it behind... doh.

Welcome to the buzz Mark

will definitely catch up about the vids.

Interesting how you wrapped the rope like you did.

Were the hooks on the chain locking? Yes?
