New Urban Tree Care reality show on Nat Geo

Is this only shown on the National Geographic Channel?

I don't have TV and my friend who does doesn't have NGC in their cable package. Sometimes Discovery co-broadcasts or some such.

yes, this is going to be awful for our image. I tried to write on the nat geo channel where you can write comments, but I couldn't because I don't do facebook.
I'm glad some are posting how bad this is on their site.
Our work could make a great reality TV show for sure.
They just need to put in time in the filming and not create bull crap staged drama. There is plenty of excitement and drama without making it up if they just followed the crews for a long time.

I hate how reality TV has become "planned drama TV". It's not real. Where did this trend start, Jerry Springer maybe?
It's a shame Nat Geo has given in to stupid TV like most of the other channels.

Watched it and had to laugh at the car incident. But alas, this is our industry, that is why we need to push for better regulation of it either by ourselves or by the dreaded government.

I'm thinking we'll advertise, "As NOT seen on TV"....

Don't know why they have to stage accidents.

Don't know about the rest but they absolutely 100% staged the log swinging into and onto the rag car. Set it up that way, had a tag line on it that could have limited swing to the car but instead, they set it up to help swing into the car.

How does a company allow itself to be punked out like that? Pussies.

I don't understand why a company would want this kind of negitive exposure, I felt like the only company that came out looking ok was Precision Rigging. The other crews really presented poor images of their companies, granted most of it was completely staged drama.
So if reality tv doesnt pay, and People do it for the exposure...
If all the exposure is negitive why do it?

That's too bad. If you're lookin for incompetent tree work by wannabe's you could settle for some of the Treehouse member's vids ;-)

Lets see your vids crybaby.

One of my contractors just called me this a.m. and told me he saw this last night. I thought he was talking about the show that Discovery had done a couple years back that some of us worked to have pulled from the air (who was that?).

Thanks to ClimbHighTree and tr33climb3r for posting the link.

This is not good for our industry. Just these little teaser videos show that not only are they staging stupid acts, like the guy topping the maple who is supposedly tied in above his cut, but in the next camera angle from above you see that he is tied in to something else (though I don't know what, because all that was left of the tree was the top they showed in the first camera angle), but they have intentionally sought out at least one company that proudly admits they are not professional. My buddy said the car smash thing also looked staged. From the propery layout shown in the teaser, it looked entirely avoidable.

Nat Geo has always been the elite when it comes to educational TV in my opinion. This is a disgusting low for them, and I think we should let them know. I plan to watch a whole episode (my buddy has it on DVR) and to find out who at NG to write to about this.

Even though I think intelligent consumers will see the difference between these yahoos and a true professional, hence this possibly making "good" arbos look better, most consumers aren't very intelligent, hence the existence of these jerks, and bad quality work will be perpetuated.

If anyone finds contact info for NG, would you please post it?

Maybe as with the Discovery show, we can keep from being tarred with the same brush.

The show wasn't as bad as I thought it was going to be...definitely some staging and added drama. It was way better than Nosack show was.

IMO the car was staged, and purposely put there. Whether they were intentionally trying to hit it...on just weren't caring if they did...who knows. Either way, it is shameful that a company would let itself be represented that way...or the industry in general. BTW- According to the door decal, they are an certified arborist (think that was the truck I seen it on).

Tree Tech was just acting goofing for the cameras, but seemed on the up and up. Specialty Rigging didn't seem to bad either, other then staying out of drop zone. Correct me if I am wrong (watched it after a 15 hour day. This 2 companies seem to be trying to do it right, and follow standards and professionalism. PPE seemed pretty prevalent through out the show.If a camera follows anyone of us, for multiple days, I would think they would catch things (and probably air) that we wouldn't be proud of.

Depending how things proceed, maybe the show will be a good example of "good" vs "bad" companies. Least that is my hope.

Watched about 20 minutes. I don't think it will last long. I am going to call NG and express my opinion about this waste of time show.
