New Tribe Onyx Harness

Just received my NT Onyx from TreeStuff a couple of weeks ago. Darn, I really like it! Been ridin' an old (2005) NT Pro until now, and the fit and features are way ahead, especially that rope bridge. Before riding it the first time, I switched it out with an adjustable bridge. I have a Petzl Grillon, which I never cared much for as a lanyard adjuster, so I took out the existing lanyard and put in another piece of 11mm and attached it to the paw on the left side of the bridge. I really like that bit of gear Yoyo put on his, but hey, this'll do for now. I love the snap buckles, and there's lot's of built in adjustment. I have to keep an eye on it though; the little bugger's trying to pinch the family jewels!

You may need to let out the leg straps to the back of the belt a little. With that said, sometimes I need to rotate the leg strap 'pads' outward after I sit back in it.

There's a lot of adjustability built into the Onyx. I originally had problems tweaking one last little discomfort out of mine so I called New Tribe. They were very patient and went through it with me until I had a solution.

Letting all the straps out works much better for me. I'm kind of a beanpole, if that makes a difference. The idea of using the Grillon for a bridge adjuster isn't going to work though.

The Roll n Lock worls well. One word of thought, put it on the opposite side of you knee ascender. For me at least that works better for the bungee on the ascender, I had it on the same side first because I wanted to keep my right side clean but caused problems for me at least.

Only problem I have with the Onyx is that the leg straps will rotate out of position due to the weight of the buckles - that is, they rotate away from the rigging plates and I need to pull them back (or trouble down below ensues)

I haven't fiddled much with it (even though I have been working with it for a year!). Seems like a band to immobilize the strap would do it, but then I'd lose the nice motion. Probably worth it, though.

I'd totally take a buckle-less leg loop - they are wide enough to step through most of the time.

I do love the onyx very much. Adjustability, slim profile, comfy on the legs. Happy user.

OK, so today I did the unthinkable.... I modified my onyx!

Not really, but I did flip the plates around so the three holes are at the back and the big hole is out front. Trying to find that little hole to clip my lanyard into was really pissing me off. Had to be done. Hopefully I am doing some climbing tomorrow and can report back. I hung in it for a bit today, just to make sure I had put it back together correctly. Seemed good. But one never knows.

Also, I had been using an old petzl micrograb as a bridge adjuster, but I took it off. It seemed more trouble than it was worth. That roll n lock sounds better. But I have maxed out my gear budget for a while. so it'll have to wait.

Orded mine over the weekend. I need something more comfortable than my sequoia since I'm getting older and I just need to be easier on my body.

I run two bridges as well. I almost never use the side d's. I run my primary lanyard from the rigging plates.

Did a removal and a spready prune today. New configuration worked perfectly for me. Love it

I have actually thought about putting a pair of 5 hole plates but I may just be over complicating things. I use Rich's idea with the CT and love it but it does ake some room up on the plate.

Can you post a pic of your double bridge setup?

So, this may not be the best picture. It was taken from my left side, as i wore the saddle. I hope it works for you. I have the stock bridge and a vortex bridge. Vortex is primary, platinum(stock) is for a secondary system. Primary has a swivel. Secondary has a ring.

Oh and that pirate hanging from the far plate is the base for my lanyard. Nothing to do with the bridge.
