New Tribe Onyx Harness

I've only used it with a MS200T. Nothing bigger. It held that just fine. I typically carry my saw on a biner clipped in a slot on the right. I did that for a half day with no prob then switched to back center to see if I was cool with it. It worked both ways just fine FOR ME.

Treeweaver- I 've had the same prob you're talking about. That was what I loved about the TreeFlex so much. That was my favorite harness for like 6 years. The TreeFlex held on tight to the my hips and even when worn very low, stayed where I put it. It has some crazy foam that give it this ability.

New Tribe accomplished a similar effect by using a thinner, more flexible foam I've been wearing it where I wear (wore) my TreeFlex and it's been staying where I put it. I have noticed it does shift on me a little when I'm really getting out on the ends of limbs and really tweaking my body in a way it shouldn't be...but the TreeFlex did the same thing at that extent.

But no- it doesn't constantly need readjusting, for me, like some previous new tribe harnesses I've used.

I like my sequoia but the srt straps pinched my nuts too many times so I bought an Onyx and I have climbed on it for a week and I am very very impressed. It's a different feel from a Treemotion and a very different feel from the Sequoia. It's very adjustable but once dialed in provides excellent support.
What really stands out are the leg straps which, when you don't have any weight on the saddle they hang back giving you amazing freedom of movement, you basically can't feel them. This really suits srwp where you can't sit in the harness when returning from limb walks. When you are putting weight in it it it has to be one of the most comfortable harnesses out there, the strap that goes across the butt, in between the back pad and leg pads, spreads the pressure evenly throughout the harness providing excellent support.
The choice of rigging plates for the lower ds was excellent too.
All in all with all these features and comfort this harness feels very compact and streamlined, an important factor for me when I choose a harness.
I hope it will last the test of time but so far, combined with going back to the rope wrench, I have been loving climbing this week.

Yeah, without having a croll permanently attached the petzl rig is pretty useless. I love the rope wrench and it's been a blast using it after giving it a break for a year. I like it changing it up to fight boredom I guess.
I can't wait for the rope runner to come out mostly.

Hilarious, I have just reached out to a couple of folks in the last few days asking for more info on this saddle, it looks great. I have been trying to find one to try out, but haven't even seen one up close so far.

Really glad you revived this thread, hope more people chime in

Although I really rate the comfort and overall design of this harness it has seriously let me down in the 3 weeks I have been climbing with it.
Stitching on 4 different webbing terminations has already come undone, others look like they are close behind. This is not life support stitching, that is yellow and appears to be bomb proof, but all the rest of the stitching.Basically everything stitched with the yellow thread appears to be rock solid, everything stitched with the black thread rips up very very easily. When it first happened I stitched it myself and although it's not pretty, my stitching holds better than theirs but I can tell that I would need to do a lot more.
The belt retainer broke this week too although that is not a huge deal.
Finally the buckles on the webbing that connects the rigging plates to the side Ds (stitching is also coming undone here) creeps so it won't hold the fit when you get in more awkward positions.
I have sent pictures to Treestuff and I guess they will get in touch with new Tribe and I am waiting for a reply.
I am really bummed because I really like this harness and i can tell they put some serious thought in the design, the craftsmanship though is abysmal. I am talking of less than three weeks of use.

Treestuff, as expected, were fantastic with their customer service as was New Tribe who have taken the matter seriously. They are sending me a brand new one along with a prepaid postage box and I will be sending my old one back so they can take a look at it.
It seems like I was the only one, out of about fifty units sold through Treestuff, to have an issue.
As far as the buckles that would creep the fit loose, they are sending me an email with some tips and suggestions.
I am very happy that both companies are taking care of this. We are lucky to have such excellent customer service.

I got my replacement onyx from new tribe today. They arranged for ups to pick up the box with the old one directly from my house. They really made sure it wasn't an inconvenience and took care of me well.
Turns out the webbing was creeping through the buckle because they had sown the termination shut before putting it through the buckle for the final turn. It now doesn't creep at all.
As far as many webbing termination stitches coming apart, they felt those where there but that most people would cut them anyhow to their preferred size. This is true, however when the life support buckle was creeping I felt like a sturdy stitch to prevent it from slipping through completely was best. Now that there is no slippage it's a non issue .
I am excited to be back on it again. The love affair is back on track..

Great saddle!Have mine for about a month and extremely comfortable, light and sturdy ive hung everything from a 201 to a 395xp and it holds up well, most common saw i take up is Husky 550 for crane removals, best saddle ive owned in the last 20 years

Anyone up for a little refreshing on this blog? I'm about to trade up my 2014 Petzl sequoia for the Onyx with a tree bay swap. I like how consolidated and neat the Petzl is but couldn't get it adjusted to where it didn't squeeze my legs and pinch my you know whats. I'm nervous about the swap but it seems like a good decision. It seemed like I was always adjusting my Petzl. Thoughts?

Absolutely love mine, takes some tweaking but then it is perfect for ever. If you add Yoyo's bridge adjuster (today when I get home), I think it will even better. Read up on that and give it some thought also, just lets you shorten the bridge to aid in ascending.

I have been rocking mine for about a month now and LOVE it. I still don't have it perfectly adjusted. It pinches in the hips a bit in some positions, I'm confident I can get it right though.

The adjustable bridge is clutch too. Had mine for about a week and won't go back. I am just using an old petzl micrograb I had lying around.

You won't be sorry.

I just assembled my adjustable bridge but it is raining here. Tomorrow after work I will give it a go. I got the Trango Big wall chest harness to try for tending. Was going to get the Petzl but a 39" max chest, lol not a chance.

Jeeeeeezum crow, that thing looks like swat gear monkey. Let us know how it works

I've been using my NT Onyx for a while now as a recreational climber. I love it. It's one piece of gear that I don't even wonder it there is anything better and that's very unusual for me.
