New to the Game just wanted to say hi

I just want to say whats up to all of you. I just started and Im a ground man and I have to say that I like this job. Iv been doing for almost 2 months right now and i enjoy it. I cant wait when i get my turn to go in the trees. I do have a question are there any good sources out there to help me learn my trees its pretty hard.

In the field is the best way to learn, I find. Just i.d. every tree on every job and you'll learn lots quick. I took dendrology in school, but couldn't tell you what was what until I worked around them for a little while. Welcome to the buzz. If learning's what you want to do, you've opened the right door.
Climb safe,
John

i found the best thing to do is learn knots. they make you more effecient on the ground. read all that you can, ask lots of questions. read all the posts on this site, learn from those that came before you

Smokey,

Read The Tree Climbers Companion. Get hold of some old rope to practice knot tying. Maybe there is a saddle around that you can use to practice with. Learn everything Low and Slow. Before you trust your life to the rope and knots, walk around on the ground and pretend that you're climbing. Roll around and put yourself into odd positions. If you want a challenge, lay down some 2x4s or logs on the ground and walk on them like they're branches.

Get hold of any of Shigo's books.

Ed Gilman's Pruning book is a must-read!

Take the time to go back into the Treebuzz archives and read the old threads. There is a lot of good information there.

Go to your local "franchise" book store and reference trees.
I'm sure they'll have several reference books or field guides. Welcome, and don't hesitate to ask how and why.

Thank you, sir.
