New Saddle

Alright Tree Pros,

I am looking for a new saddle, since the weaver with a single butt strap is killin my body thrusting.

I have noticed that New Tribe has a new saddle out, similar to the work saddle, but supposedly more rec climber friendly.
The other one I am looking at is a Master II. Wespur has them for $189 and the New Tribe is $185. So That is amout my price range for now.

Any suggestions, hints, tips, or stories with any of these saddles will be most greatly appreciated kind sirs.

What is your main tree posture? This influences what variations will and won't work for you.

New Tribes are pretty nice for sitting. Their leg pads might be a bit much.

So are pro belts with bosun (sp?) seats, I've heard.

My Butterfly II is flexible and comfortably transparent enough to position standing straight up through doing the splits (yup, I still can).

Any local ISA climbing events soon in your area?

Not sure about the ISA events Jim, how can I check.

I am mainly going to be using this saddle for rec. climbing with very limited work usage, so comfort sitting(for improved body thrusting) is a must. I really like the versatility of hookups that the Master 2 has, yet the new tribe looks a lot like my sofa, so I am torn. Hence, I am looking for feedback on these particular saddles.

I own a New Tribe saddle and am very happy with it. I have never heard any significant negative feedback on the New Tribe saddles. On the other hand I have heard several people complain about the Master II, although I have not used that one myself.

As for rope, both the Blue Streak (arbormaster) and the XTC are good choices.

Joe,

I typed "New Tribe" into the seach feature and came up with this:

I don't know if the link will transfer but you can do the same.

NT will customize the saddle to fit you.

Leon hit the nail on the head.

Go to the ISA webpage and find out what the Southern and Florida chapters have planned for workshops. That's the place to meet the rest of the family.

I took a look at the B'Fly in Feb, and as far as I can tell it isn't set up so one can change the centre of gravity i.e. set the sliding bridge out from the pelvis. I was going to buy the B'Fly this spring untill I noted the lack of adjustability, I plan to get the Tree Magic instead.

What do you mean by that? Do you want to have the bridge move out away from the saddle?

Can't you solve that issue by using a longer bridge?

The TM seems to be getting rave reviews.

The webbing on the Glide that extends from the waist to the rings in which the leg straps are located can be ixtended in and out. This allows a short bridge, with or without a high centre of gravity. After putting so many years in the Master I have a preference for keeping the bridge in nice and tight, I just figured the variety would suit recreational tree climbing.

There IS variety in the new BII in that you can unscrew the schackle and put in whatever length you want (which is exactly what I did!)

The benefit is you don't have all that extra....crap hanging there.

However, you can't change it mid tree (well, you COULD). But do you really need to change bridge length while IN a tree?

I think the new promaster series saddles looks ok,i used the old promaster and liked the climbing and the hanging support.Make a good recsaddle!

Hi Svein
I've mentioned here before that I can't get comfy in my tree magic harness. I'm not quite ready to chuck it cos theres many things I do like about. Do you have any advice as to how it should fit? I know it sounds like a stupid question but mine always drops off my hips especially when its a bit loaded with gear. Doing the waist belt up super tight is just uncomfortable and still doesn't really help. Advice appreciated, or tree magic coming up on treebay soon!

Have you tried tightening the strap that runs along the outside of the back pad?
I did just that and the saddle fits on my hips correctly now. (I may be fatter than you tho) Saddles falling off my hips had always been a concern with me esp. when slinging around a bigger saw. So now I use the shoulder strap that came with my small New Tribe bag.
