New Rope?

Samson True Blue is my choice, it's a bit oversized and heavy, non-spliceable, but has a lower stretch than any of the ropes you're considering.

All my bodylines are True Blue.

I own the tachiyon line as well but it just doesn't hold up well. I flew that thing on a pulley 90% of the time and it is now due for retirement. I've had my pi line twice as long and it's still in climbable shape.

I was wondering about wear with Tachyon. I really like how it feels and everything but I had a lanyard made with Tachyon and it didn't last very long... pines roughed it up pretty bad.

At 10% load, True Blue stretchs 2.6%. I find that it stretchs more than 1/2" 16 strands and is extremely heavy.

A 10% load on True Blue is 730 pounds Norm.

That said, about 10 years ago a group of local climbers here decided to do a little low tech testing on various climbing lines available to us at that time.

We took the 5 top brands and cut some 25 foot hanks for testing with my trusty 84 Toyota 4X4 tooltruck. We tied one end of the hanks to a big stump, and the other end to my truck's front bumper, a 3 inch tube. In low four wheel drive I gently backed up until each rope was taught, then dumped the clutch. Each rope of the 5 tested in this manner snapped except for the True Blue which stalled my truck.

Needless to say we all bought 600 foot roles of True Blue.

Pretty low tech testing I know, but seeing is believing!

Agree completely. True blue is utter crap compaired to newer ropes. I rather use 3 strand then this crap.

It didn't break cause it streched 3 times more than the other ropes. the other ropes were probally at their full stretch. Did they break at the knots tied? or did they break in the middle?

They all broke at the knots Hollenreich, some at the stump, some at the bumper, except the True Blue.

I readily admit that I'm about 10 years out of date here.

I understand that there are now 1/2 inch lines with ratings that exceed 8K pounds.

I’m with TLHamel My personal choice is Tachyon (Lava), but considering your three picks I would say Poison Ivy. I have PI and I love mine, low stretch, light, and nice feel. Good eye splice. I had a problem with the velocity milking and binding up the climbing hitch. I bought one of the first velocity off the lot! used it a couple of times and never again! Great for foot lock but milk like crazy. It was long ago so perhaps they fixed the milking problem but what a pain. I milked 2 foot of cover off the core and it was still milking!!!!!
