I'm looking into buying a new rope. So many options out. My old rope is Sampson yellow jacket like it just time to upgrade. What are you guys climbing on and the pros and cons of your choices?

Go for some PI or Tachyon. I haven't climbed on Tachyon (yet) but from what I've read, it's some really great stuff. Poison Ivy is really nice also. I switched over from the Fly, to PI, and love the PI. I would recommend using a VT knot, or other prusikk with the skinner line.

i just got some of yale's blue moon. i'm a huge fan already. it's 11.7, 24 strand and very low stretch. it works very well with a vt or knut.

Tachyon, low low stretch, light light weight, very round in the hand (ooerr) and doesn't bunch after initial milking (grink). Mine does seem to be wearing quickly though, tiny puffs and abrasions, maybe not the tightest weave of outer braid?? Shiv in the wet though as all these skinny rope are.

I've been using the P.I. for some time now and really dig the low stretch and larger diameter for 24 strand. Another dude at work just got the Blue Moon and seems real happy. To me it seems more like a Blaze than an Ivy. Hey, time'll tell...

I'm a huge fan of Velocity. Light weight, no stretch, and works great with multiple cordage for knots. (IMO) I have tachyon as well and that too is a great rope, a little more stretch than my velocity. I also think it comes down to what kind of work your doing with the rope. If i do a lot of footlocking i use my velocity, if i hang off the crane then i like the tachyon. Kinda depends on you, any of the ropes above are great ropes, just steer clear of three strand!! Great for rigging, tough for climbing!!
