New (old stock) 440 Stihl

Today I went to the saw shop to buy a new 372. I wanted the old one (not brand new version) but they are all gone. I have owned 2 372's in the last 10 years and loved 'em.
The guys at the shop pointed to a 440 and told me that is what I need. Last one... they will mod it and buff out the clutch springs for extra $150. 28" light weight bar is my favorite set-up for my big climb saw.
So now the transformation is complete, and I run all Stihl...
Any opinions on the 440 vs. new 441?
My firefighter friend told me the forest service grabbed up a bunch of 440's before they switched to the 441.

I am stoked... it has been over 3 years since I bought a new saw. I run all 200T, but have the love for the 372.
My old boss had all 044's with 20 inch bar. It has been 9 years since I really used a Stihl.
Maybe the economy has turned a little. Spring has been good so far - last year was bad...

I will give a report next week after I tear into some wood.

I looked on Ebay and there are some (new in box) for sale. The outfit is in Forks, WA and they want $1100 for the saw. I think I paid 850 plus tax yesterday at local shop...

woods ported? what bar length?

Yep, Woods in Sedro Wooley cut in a dual exhaust and tuned it up. Also, they worked on the clutch a little, bigger springs, etc - to beef it up.
I like a 28 inch bar. I ran a 24" for years but it would run out on some of the big trees here. I have a couple Husq. 395 with 36" bars - I hate cliping that to my saddle to 'block' down a spar...

I heard they were bringing back the 044 or 440 soon. Got to love that 372 xp: how light it is, excellent power and never fails. I've been having this exact debate with myself right now: get another 372 or go all Stihl....don't know the answer just yet.

Yeah but anyway I heard that Stihl was going to produce 44's again...is that true?

I love the 372 too. My local shop showed me that they now have a different carburetor - the d.comp button is now on the top. Anyway, the guys did not like the new 372 and so I finally succumb to the Stihl 440.
Nice saw, light and very similar to my 372. Easy transistion to climb with, not awkward like I have to figure out how to use the thing.
I would like to buy another 440!

I can support the rumor mill too. I stopped by the Stihl shop today, and the shop owner said that he had recently received an email that the 440's were coming back. He said that he was going to buy as many as he could, but didn't have a price yet.
