Like I say d the 1 ton ain’t perty but she can haul like a champ! Super cheap to repair, if needed? And because it’s not a daily driver it’s cheap on fuel. Also consider that in Canada if it’s under 5 ton I don’t need commercial inspection! That’s a big deal when you are just starting out! 5 tons and up do. If you get a bucket truck, you must get commercial inspection on vehicle, have an annual NDT ( non destructive test ) on the crane and if you work around power lines a test for electrical insulation on the boom. These all add up normally at the beginning of your season when you have the least amount of money. So don’t be afraid to charge for a job! It costs a great deal of up front money to run a tree business, we haven’t even touched on fuel, insurance, ropes, climbing gear, power saws- you need lots of every size imaginable. Oh and last thing that dump truck in the photo will normally hold all the branches on a 120’ bushy fir or cedar for reference. With a conventional pickup and small box you will do maybe 5 trips to the dump area. Minimum!
