New device from buckingham

I've always been 'Akimbo curious' and this new one certainly looks worth consideration.... like all the other new mechanicals coming out right now... Honestly what strikes me most about the A2 is just how small and simple it looks compared to all the other devices.

Haven't watched this yet but looks like it might have a bunch of good info. I have Akimbo's and love them but not binding with pitch would be an incredible bonus.

(I did a bit of a search and didn't see a better place to put this video and comment. If there is I apologize.)

the new cam/spring placement makes it so that the akimbo doesn’t lock up entirely when it runs into sap. Where before you had to unweight entirely to descend past the sappy area, now you can just pull harder to pass it. It’s not perfect, and at some level of sap there’s not much you can do, but it’s way better. Whereas before you couldn’t really even use rope that had past sap on it, now it’s totally doable. If you double rope it’s even better.

Great info, thanks.

I usually have a Zeiss Lens Wipe packet with me ($5 per 100 from Walmart) to clean the rope surfaces of the original Akimbos. Some reviews I hunted up for Akimbo II had comments where it was apparent that people could have benefited from doing this.

Sounds incredible I'll be loving life even more now.

Just recieved my Akimbo II yesterday - a work of art and thing of beauty.

I was disappointed ahead of time hearing it was larger than the original but, in hand and without my original in the house to compare it to, I didn't notice a difference in size.

Sadly I'm working mostly the tops of big trees the next two weeks. I'll figure out how to get a little time on it in the lower canopy.

Cool, I'm curious to hear your impressions of it compared to the original. (I own neither but have always been curious)

Looks like Arbsession has the Buckingham Throttle on sale for $350 right now. They also have a great sale that ends tomorrow where you get a free climb tote for orders over $500. Mention "Great Wall of Rope" in your purchase notes and they will throw in a random hank of rope. I had low expectations for what I'd get but they sent a 115' hank of Samson Velocity. I know this sounds like a commercial but I just wanted to share how much of a great deal this sale is!

I saw that and my first thought was "huh, maybe people aren't liking it... " If I have a few beers, I may impulse buy an Akimbo 2 one of these days though...
