new bigshot configuration

Location
BC.
I guess its not that new anymore, but I just replaced my old bigshot, and this newer version seems to misfire more, and doesn't go as high. May take some getting used to, but anyone else notice a difference? Maybe something in the technique? Might be a good thing, as I'm taking more throws than I used to. . .

Naw, that's what the Big Shot's for, get it the first time.

Haven't tried the new head yet, prolly takes some getting used to, but you'll get it right with practice.

You already know my thoughts on this

I can only hope that I have a defective unit, maybe the rubber is too long or something. . because they couldn't put out a product like this and think its better.
Another frustrating day yesterday, trying to hit wide open shots at 75 - 80'. Will have to try some others (the one at the BC TCC seemed to work well - was that yours Murph?), and maybe send this one back, otherwise, try and reconfigure my old one (the rubber and webbing to the basket is all worn. .)

This new configuration came out just as I was moving outof climbing and onto the keyboard more...I found it to be very very frustrating...why on earth did they want to change what was a perfectly good setup for this PIA POS????

Seriously it an old saying much misused but certainly fits here..."if it ain't broke don't fix it"

It was my bigshot yes, but I still find mine immensely frustrating compared to an older model that I learned on. It fires high enough but I have far too many misfires as the throwball dribbles out of that flacid pouch.

The old pouch was far better for sure, the bag would stay put till you fired.
The bag just falls out of the new one as you are aiming, or half falls out causing a misfire.

Have to agree, bring back the older design (and the older more rigid Faltaimer cubes)..

just got the new pouch,,, just needed the rubbers i had the real old pouch thought about re chocking the old one to the new rubbers but wasnst sure it was possible? i spent like seven years behind the old pouch and loved it ,, this is like a new relationship we will have some fights but we need to find a middle ground iguess where off to a good start shot 65ft into an elm last week in like three shots over a slate roof with copper gutters and a indoor sun/swimming pool room

Definitely possible, not that difficult to attach your old pouch to new sling rubber. You'll need to match the spec on the latex tubing and order by the foot (inside diameter. wall thickness and outside diameter). I haven't found any quality differences buying pure latex tubing from different suppliers. I don't advise trying to retrofit the current rubbers. You have to make a hole in the tubing to girth the pouch loop through, each time you screw around with it opens that up and that's where the tubing will fail when it wears out.

Everyone I've talked to says the old head design fired higher than the new one.

The other factor to consider is that latex tubing looses "rebound" capacity the cooler it gets. For instance you will shoot much higher at 80 degrees f., at 50 degrees you'll notice less power and below freezing it gets much worse. I use it a lot in the winter and pack the head in small bag with hand warmers, I'll have a window of a few minutes getting high shots before it has to be reheated again.

And lastly, go 2.2mm or less with your throwline to max your height.

If you use a pull down trigger sustem you can pull the rubbers full length of the pole to get additional height. Pure latex tubing is rated to 600% stretch to average breaking point, it's safe to pull the length of the pole.

raven hit a 40 footer first shot, taday, it wasa suga maple when i isolateded i couldnt see threw the leaves in this 38yr old tree becuse of the deck the fence and the wall, i could see the crotch well when the ball came down i attached the blaze yanked it up and it got stuck,, the ball decided to take a couple of wraps before it came down,, fixed that problem and my climbling line was high and tight in this easy prune, lightly thin crossing dead decayed clearence over the house , but what i really learned is im to fat for sugar maples i got stuck in every crotch boots and belly,,

eat a cheese steak ,drink ten beers, get a clue,, why do you use the big shot? ????????

What the hell are you talking about and what does it have to do with the newly redesigned bigshot.

if you want to brag about 40' shots, and easy prune jobs, do it in the climbing section.

Guys,

The pouch was initially redesigned to accept a wider range of projectiles. Although that was accomplished it took quite some time for us to realize that the mfg started (at what point in time we don't know) cutting the yellow portion unevenly. We still replace these with little more than a polite request and address.

Today the strapping has a nice added feature of stitching beneath the pouch that causes the pouch to pinch the projectile until released, allowing the user to launch a throw weight, even horizontally without losing the projectile. Drop me a pm and i'll send all in this thread one for free ...okay, and a few of your friends ...yea, okay, and a few of their friends ...but this stops Nov 1st '09.

You have to promise to put the thing on though, and then return with an opinion ...notice i didn't say "praise," just opinion.

Clocks ticking.
