Nice hand!

Okay, lemme see if I can break it down for you. I don't know "poker talk" so you'll have to bear with me.

We're playing the type of poker where everyone is dealth 2 cards. Then eventually during the betting process, 5 other cards are shown to the table and we all can share those 5 cards, using our two plus the 3 highest community cards to create the best hand you can.

I'm dealt 2 aces. Sweet I think. Few people fold, few bet. I know I'm staying in this hand. Eventually 4 of the community cards are shown and the pot is getting pretty big. There are some face cards showing, but nothing really helps me. So finally everyone folded except me and one other guy. He calls me all in. First instinct was, fold. Last time I played on a pr. of Aces, I lost all my money. Then I thought- no way. This guys full of it. So he had more chips than I, so I put 'em all in.

Four cards showing: 9, 10, Queen, King. I ALMOST had a straight. So the betting is over. There is still one more card to show flip, but we show are cards- me confident I was gonna win. I flipped first- pair of Aces. So the other guy get's that quick fake look of dissapointment, then flips his cards and shows that he has a Queen and a Jack. That Jack allows him to make a straight, beating my aces, and the smile drops from face. He reaches in for his chips, and everyone yells, "WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT, WAIT!!!!!" There's still one card to show.

Now keep in mind that my understanding of the game is very low. I can't just look at what's there and say, "Oh, if this card shows, I win." So one guy says, "if a jack shows, you win." "Huh? He has a straight", I ask.

Well, with your ace, and the jack showing, now you, too have a straight. A ten, jack, queen, king, ace straight, which is one card higher than his.

At this point, there are 15 people hunched/crowded over the table waiting to see what the last card is. Slowing their burning desire to see it, I go over what he said, than I say, "Yeah, but he's already got one of the Jacks, so there's only 3 left in a deck of thirtyish... assuming no one else already had one and folded it. There's like a 2% chance."

Everyone huddles in closer. Dealer flips the last card. Jack of hearts! I WON!!!!!!

There was a lot of money in that pot. The guy was very noble in his defeat while everyone at the table acknowledged that he played his cards 100% right.

See the pic. It's sorta big so you can zoom in and see the cards.

Don't ask about the snow goggles.

Re: Nice hand!

Luck can bring you a big win now and then, but cashing out was not an option. All money went to the last player standing.

This picture is me, 4 hours later.
