Hey Guys I just finished this up because I wanted it all you could say.

A ring to ring friction saver but also can be converted to a rope guide to just work off the pulley and also if I want to retrieve the rope guide I can by putting on my dog snap. First here is the finished product...

This way I can use it as a ring and ring friction saver which in my opinion is the easiest friction device to work with. I can also set it and remove it from the ground. The pulley acts as the small ring

Lets say I am doing a removal and have to return to the top of the tree I can choke it just like a rope guide without having to worry about retrieving it from the ground and I can also just work off the pulley

And Finally if I want a full rope guide and want to retrieve it from the ground I stole rangerdanger's idea and can add a dog snap i had laying around the house below the pulley

I was thinking the same thing as Bostonbull as well as is there any chance using that big ring while using it as a regular ring to ring could the cocoon pull through the ring. One other flow I am seeing would be setting it remotely if the throwline slides on the side of the sheave.

I have thought about it but I really dont think so at least when the rope is through it. But i will keep it in mind and If it comes across i can post about it

It is a very good thought. Haven't thought about that. I rarely do set a friction saver from the ground but when i do I might just worry about that.

Now that I think about how a friction saver is set from the ground the throw ball is in the small ring or pulley in my case and once it is flipped over the limb that's when it can get on the side of the sheave. I will have to test out the throw line getting stuck there and how the rope might or might not get stuck through it

I wouldnt set it from the ground, just use it when you need to go to tip via access line.If you dont need to go to the tip there are many other options such as anchoring a pulley, installing a standard f/s or even working the tree srt.Looks nice I would like to give that a try,in my experience the caccoon has a real hard time passing thru the large ring and has a tendency to get stuck like chuck.the splice decreeses the interior diam of the ring making it a very tight for retrieval.I wonder if you could girth a small rated webbing sling or some 5m rated cord with a couple double fishermans onto the ring-then attach it to the rope with a six coil prussik therefore making it adjustable.Plus maybe the webbing or cord would take up less interior diam allowing the caccoon to pass thru easier.

The large ring on a Buckingham FS is bigger than the common 76 mm rings that are easily obtained from most places. It looks to be about 3/8 " bigger on the inside. I think this would be just enough to alleviate the problems of the cocoon getting stuck. Anyone got a worn out Buckingham FS?
