My first cat rescue

I did my first cat rescue last night. It was a lot of fun, and it took about 2 hours round-trip, from Asheville to Black Mountain.

New customers, accepted the price I quoted on the phone no questions asked. Got out to the site, which was pretty remote, and the cat was only 30' up the tree, an open-form chestnut oak with tons of TIPs to choose from.

Single line up there in no time flat, and then the noteworthy part of the story, the XL rope boss rope bag. Tobe are you listening? You should market this thing as a cat rescue tool - the opening is huge, it keeps it's shape, and this particular cat went in without a struggle. Okay it kept it's claws in the tree and meowed a bunch, but once I tore it free, it went in the bag without a hitch.

I closed the bag, made a bad joke about cats in bags to the owners (who thought it was a pretty good joke, i might add), and lowered it down.

Have a nice day!

Whatever you can get away with charging? I used to say one price that was too high, no bites. This time I lowered it and they immediately agreed.

Totally up to you.

Good point about the vet charge - people pay for their priorities, as strange as they may seem. I certainly didn't mind the drive out and back, prob got a new customer out of it.

And SamCRTC, I wonder if the same will happen for me - they said the same thing, but the cat has been up 3 times prior to this!

I tell people I charge $80 if I climb the cat figures it out, we get along, cat wants to be rescued, can go up from there on a prolonged chase at $50 per hour.

Aside from an easy cat rescue I did gratis for an elderly widow who paid me in home-made cookies, I've always been paid more than I asked for.

Some times by a factor of two when the neighbors (unasked) kick in.

It's crazy, you rig huge wood out over a house, everyone figures you're just doing your job.

Rescue a kitten with an easy low-impact climb, you're a hero...
