my attempt at a footlock prusik setup

cool beans Jersey.
I am sorry for steering you the wrong way on the length of footlock cord. I only posted that because it is how I have seen it done in compettion. I supose Tom is right about not having it too far away but that is just what I have witnessed. Anyways..again sorry for the bad info.

That's it dammit! I'm buyin' you a stinkin' tripod! They're strike proof.

Just an aside... it helped me a lot to learn to simply stand... or actually squat kinda, on the rope after locking my feet on. It helped me learn to keep the weight on me feet and not my hands.

Try just pulling up and after locking on the first time just squat down and let your feet take all the weight, just use your hands for balance. Then you can stand straight up and get an idea of how it feels to fully extend while staying over your feet... still using hands for balance only.

JZ, I am going to suggest that you girth hitch that prussik to your carabiner so there is no sliding on that. That way it's solid and doesn't slide back and forth.

Ditto! Good observation Ty.
JZ, try an offset "D" instead of an HMS biner. The HMS gives the cord more opportunity to 'float'.

Hey JZ! I really dig your enthusiasm! PUClimber makes a good point... isolate your strop (cord) where it attaches to the carabiner. Use a girth hitch or a piece of rubber or tape. If you need to sit back or drop your weight onto the strop, the chances of side loading the 'biner are greatly reduced. Also, from a safety perspective(it's great that you notified your neighbor, but what can he do about a climber hanging at 30') girth hitch the ascent line to the branch or somehow assure that both legs of the line will remain stationary if you end up missing a lock and only standing on one leg of rope. Another way would be to send up the footlock line attached to a single static line secured to the base of the trunk; you can be lowered by someone on the ground. Further, perhaps you could set up a "regular" climbing line (DdRT) next to the footlock line. This way if you get tired and/or can't reach the Klemheist and/or drop the figure 8, you still have a backup for descent. Just reach over and clip in! Well, that stuff is hard to describe in writing! Keep havin' fun!
