MS 270 good for me?

Before I order one, does anyone want to try to talk me out of buying a Stihl MS 270 Wood Boss? I cut firewood and small-medium trees around my 5 acres. Not a pro by any means, but would like to consider myself one small notch above a weekend warrior.

My Jonsered 490 is getting old and a bit feeble and, well, I was given a bit of dough for my birthday toward a new saw. The 270 looks like it might be a good fit for me, unless anyone can think of a reason why not.

Thanks.

They are not bad saws. They are a "homeowner" saw. Plastic case, crank and top end one unit, power to weight ratio is on the bad side. Will do fine for years if maintained properly and your not using it to dice up 4 cords of 30" Oak a year.

BB,

Sounds about right. I am, after all, a homeowner, and probably won't put more than 25-30 hours / year on the saw.

I just wanted to know if there was any kind of flaw or defect to which this model might be prone, or whether there might be a better saw (make and/or model) to do the kind of work that I've described.

Thanks.

I have a ms 270 use it for the groundies. Won it at a local tradeshow. I found out that with in a couple of years you will definatly want to keep up that maintanence. The onle real problem I have is the starter cord pulled right out and the coil just blew apert. In all it is a good home owner saw.

Just keep up with spark plugs, fuel line replacement, air filter cleaning, and from what I found out is use only Stihl bar and chain oil. I ran an amsoil bar and chain same wieght but seemed to clog. (new filter and small section of line later lessoned learned.
Basically keep your saw running good and like the other professional saws it will last. other alteranitve to 270 ms is the 260 pro, I have 2 one for work and 026 for firewood and both have seen oppisite roles before. 270is also a pound heaveier.
