Motorcycles???

Well, I've been reading Noel's post on a motorcycle as an estimate vehicle and since its gotten so many posts, I figured I'd post a few bike questions.

1. Who here on the buzz owns a bike and how often do you ride it??

2. What's your favorite brand of motorcycles, even if you don't own one but would like too.

3. Would a motorcycle be better than a car for a first vehicle??? (For me) I'd be driving really just to school and back, mall, movies, etc. Not a long distance. (At least not to often

) (I know many get over 50mpg!!!)

4. Would bike would you recomend for a first bike. (Nothing fancy or too big) I would prefer a Harley, but no idea on models??

You must have had lots of summer school?

I never went anywhere near school on vacation.

I didnt know you have a Triumph! I have a whole new respect for you now.

I just sold 3 of my bikes but I still have my custom harley and my yzf450. Miss the rocket but they are hard to keep yourself in-check with.

I have one for you, Honda Super Cub 50cc. I've got a '67 in pretty good condition. Last summer I was putting $2.00 of premium (plus some Sea Foam) in a week.

We moved shops over the winter so the ride to work got longer, I'm still looking for a route through the city.

Careful out there on those bikes, I lost an uncle in a motorcycle accident this spring...

I second that on the BMW's. I own a R1200C and ride as much as possible. 8000 to 10000 a year. Some of you have seen my ride at the ITCC in KY and MN. In fact I'll be riding out to St. Louis in July. Taking I-70 most of the way from PA. Join me if you care too!!

I ride two BMW's. 1999 R1100GS with almost 90,000 miles on it, and a 1991 R100GS with 25,000 miles. I also ride two KTM's - 520EXC and a 525MXC. Today I rode 225 miles with my 19 year old son. He ownes a Suz. 600 GSX. He could not keep up with the old man on his BMW!

If you would like to see some great motorcycle pictures and be introduced to duel-sport riding, go to this web address and view TK's photo album. I've got 207 pictures downloaded of almost 100,000 miles of riding. There are two albums, and it is best to view them with the slide show set on 1 or 2 seconds. These pictures are mainly from the Northwest, Alaska, and Utah.

I have a '71 Hodaka Ace 100 although I updated it to the Dirt Squirt shifter assembly. I havent ridden it in about 10 years. I'm not into road bikes but I have always been a Hodaka fan! Coolest bike names ever: Dirt Squirt 100, Road Toad 100,Super Rat 100, Wombat 125, Combat Wombat 125, Super Combat 125 and of course the Thunder Dog 250! Last month when Jr. was on leave from the Marines he brought home a Honda 650 Harley wannabe. Neat looking bike. I had a neighbor that lost his leg because a car pulled in front of him, and the neighbor next to him got both legs broken when a car pulled in front of him. Had a buddy that just bought a Harley and had a taxi pull out and hit him in the left leg and then the Harley landed on the same leg. He told me when they picked the bike up he looked down and there was a bone sticking through his boot. Gotta watch out for those cars because they might not be looking out for you!

I have a honda fireblade, a slabside GSXR750, 2 RGV250 race bikes (in storage, dont have the time to race anymore), 2 KDX200's, an RG50 wolf and a honda trike.

I dont know how many Kms I do a year, I dont even know how many kms a set of tires last me anymore.

Really like Ducati's, they handle so brilliantly and sing a great tune. Aprilias are wonderful to. The new triumphs really run well, especially the 675. But I do like suzukis. I had a Gsxr thou for the shortest time but it just didnt suit carrying much gear or doing alot of city riding. New buells have potential but I havent ridden one yet.

I like all sorts of bikes, although I have ridden harleys, have friends and family that have them, I dont get them, I just feel dissapointed and conned when i get on one. They should be better than what they are, or ALOT cheaper, or perhaps I need to be older or more brand conscious.

Next bike might be a trials bike.

If you do not have a vehicle at all I would not suggest a bike as your only form of transportation. Weather is a factor here, seasoned riders can deal with the inclimate weather....but they are seasoned riders. Get you a decent car, then look to get a bike IMO.

As stated earlier, the Rebel is a good bike for starters as well as the Kawasaki ninja 250 or the 500. If you do not like the fairings on the bike look you can go with either a Honda Hawk, suzuki GS 500 or the Suzuki SV 650. Do not attempt to get any of the current inline 4 cylinders as a first bike.

I have an older 1978 kawasaki kz1000 and love it and ride it to work and as much as possible especially with gas prices sky rocketing like they have.

VTX 1300 Retro, Honda, awsome cruiser. My wife has a Honda Shadow Aero 800cc, nice bike as well. Unfortunately me have to sell hers. As so far as riding mine, I don't ride as often as I should esp. with the fuel prices as they are now.
