Can we get a look at the remote and can you tell us a little about the practicalities of using it up there?

Heck yeah! What is the range? How long do the batteries last? Does it get in the way climbing?

That must be difficult at times when you need to get out of the way in a hurry and you're busy operating the remote.

That's my feeling about too, Kevin. High tech and all, impressive, but leaves open new ways to get hurt. Like, what if a loose limb or the work itself smacked into the control unit??

The range on the remote is 300'.Sometimes it is awkward climbing with it but Im sure like anything in time ill get used to it.Batteries last a few days and there is always 1 charged up in the truck.
I can still get out of the way just as quick. As you see I usually make the cut get out of the way then move the piece.Much safer than having someone else move it while you are still cutting. I can see much better what the piece is doing and how the crane is effecting it. As you saw when i lifted a piece and it came toward me i had a hand free to control it and no saw running.
When im not using the remote there is a stop button which disables the controls..so no accidental bumps.
Ill get a pic of the remote soon. I think Mark C has a similar pic he posted when i was looking into these.

Do you do this because you don't have a crane operator?

I don't think I would wanna do it like that ALL the time, but I can definitely see having it. I kinda like just doing the cutting.

I have been the crane operator before and have had a good operator while i climb. The problem has been getting a good climber so I can operate(which I dont want to do steady)or a good operator who will do the other things required inbetween. I love to operate eqquipment and climb so its the best of both worlds for me.

Same here. Those are the two things I love to do most is operate equipment and climb. Whenever we borrow our friends skid steer I always seem to find a way to operate it.
