more fun with knucklebooms

The bottom piece was ~14k, the top was ~26k. I remembered because the crane was good for ~26klbs and the pieces totaled 40klbs.

The crane operator was wanting me to cut it in one piece! He musta been tired, it was around 830pm when we cut the next to last piece.

I should have taken the log on the left off in the first pic, but such is life.

That's a common story. I remember one white oak we did years ago and I asked my op take it in one or two? It was on the edge of being too heavy. He said "it's 4:00, take it in one!" I took a second to reevaluate and agreed. Was fine, but was 80% capacity.

When time of day becomes a factor then it's time to evaluate everyone's mindset and level of fatigue. That way we can either call it or recommit to focusing on getting the job done right and safely.

Mike, you're absolutely right about attitude. The only thing I have a different view on is the starting at an early age. Many of the tree guys I've come across started at an early age but only learned bad habits at the feet of their old school "teachers" (I use that word very, very, loosely). Unsafe habits can start and be ingrained at an early age just as readily and maybe even more so. It all starts with the mentor/teacher, if they have a attitude of safety then it will be adopted by their pupils.

DSC_0982.webp hey treehumper....sorry haven't been on in a while....yeah I definitely agree...it can be about who you learn from!!! How has everyone from the BUZZ been doing? I've been super busy having another banner year. I still get people contacting me wanting more photos....so.... someone was asking how I like using the man basket on the kbooms
