No doubt true most of the time. So many unknown and unseen variables under that bark. Tie in points on tall trees are one of those too. I'm sure most climbers have set their rope on what looked like a great TIP from the ground only to find it far less safe looking once they reached it.
Ain't that the truth. Just yesterday I had what I thought was the best TIP on a large red oak for some work over the wires. Guess my bounce test wasn't enough the break that sucker about 6' above the crotch. It was only a small fall but when you're 4' off the ground with a 6' fall it wasn't fun lol
