There are two Metavik log trailer for sale around me. I have posted a link below to one of them for you to see a picture. I was wondering if anyone had any experience with making these into road worthy machines? The owner says they use them on the road however, the tires don't look like road tires. Also, I would have to modify the hydraulic system to not be hooked up to a tractor. Not a big deal really!!
Any thoughts, advice? I have been looking for a trailer like this, just not sure if I want the added work of making it road legal unless its not a big deal.

Those are implement tires, "Not For Highway Service." If there aren't brakes behind them, that will have to be changed. Metavik may have a kit, or you may have to replace the axle assembly. Neither is a big deal, just money.

Building a power pack isn't a big deal either, again it's just money. I would offer him $10k and jump if he would take it.

Thanks Lumberjack. That was kinda my thought. I was thinking that for another 2-3K I could get it road worthy. I don't think thats too bad for a nice log trailer. Also, it looks real beefy

I'm Asuming there's just a spindal welded to the frame as most implements running floation tires so some modification would be needed to add a pair of axles with brakes as lumberjack stated, hydraulic unit would be easy as well so lights new axles/tires and a gas powered hydraulic unit will end up more around 4-5,000
Axles you have about 1k in a pair of 7k
Tires and rims will run you around 1k
Hydraulic power unit will be close to 2k
Then lights/ fabrication may need a different hitch as I may just have a pin hole

Assuming it's not the highway trailer, the tires are mounted on a bogie, best I recall. That would need to be removed and spring hangers welded on.

I would agree with everything said so far. And would add, running it on the road as is, is probably not a very good idea. The wheel bearings are probably a low speed bearing, that is not designed to disipate or absorb the heat of highway use.
These are out there for road use, it sounds like this might be a little too much of a "build" for me, but it might work for your operation.

Just saw a dump trailer set up by me for about the same price. Maybe they'd be willing to sell just the clam if you already have a trailer!?

Yeah, its too much of a build for me really. I was thinking it might just be a few things, but it is really adding up. Plus, the guy is pretty set on the price. I am in the market for a road legal one. TCtreeswinger what is he selling? I would be interested if it's not too far from VT. I would feel more comfortable being around the 10K price range.
This is also for sale around me. I love it, just what I want. Just a little too expensive for me right now.
