Merit

Has anyone used Merit on Black Locust for leaf miner. The tree may not be desireable for most. But they are abundate
in a hign end community I work in.

I have used merit 2f on locust leaf miner with great success. The application needs to be done in the fall for next years insect. The treatment can be done either as a soil drench or injection at the 80 oz./100 gl rate. Mauget's Imicide also works very well in control of the leafminer.

I work in the Hudson Valley area of New York and there is a serious problem with the locust leafminer. The merit does work.

Isn't 80oz quite a high rate. Are you inject at the base or doing a grid in the root zone. I will check what you're using. I've using Merit 75WSP.

How long have you been using this rate and did it become by trail and error.

80oz/100 gl is the correct rate for Merit 2f. We inject at the base and go out from there at 3 foot intervals in a grid pattern. Inject at 1Q per inch DBH (a 15" tree recieves 15Q of the mixed product. I have been using this rate for many years as per the product label.

Mreit 2f can also be used as a foliar treatment, but at a much lower rate. This treatment is done at 1.5oz/100gl. It is a great substitute for TalstarOne, Scimitar or Acephate.

What is nice about Merit 2f is that it is in a flowable form, which makes mixing alot easier. The 75 WSP comes in those nasty water soluble packets. If you need to only mix up a small amount, the package can become very messy. With the flowable, you can mix up what ever amount you need with little trouble.

One other note. The flowable can be very expensive. Depending on what vendor I use, it can run from $800.00 per gallon to $1200 per gallon.

You can not use Merit for mites. Merit, if used at a rate higher than listed on the label (which by the way is illegal), will cause mite outbreaks. That is when you sell your client a Avid treatment.

I use Avid in spring and fall, then switch to Hexagon, Flomite, Forbid which really kncks them down. Try to use oil whenever possible, but those sunny sites are tough.
Merit only use as soil injection. Found good control with grid treatment using 1.6 oz per hundred. Know others who use that rate for 300 gal

Sex!

Ha! You pervert!

Sorry, just thought i'd change the title, its been saying 'Merit' for ages now and I'm getting really bored of scrolling down and seeing 'Merit' on the 'Pesticides and Ferts' forum last post.

Re: Sex!

Yeah, why is it nobody wants to talk about pesticides and ferts just now?

Are they all to busy winterizing their spray rigs?

Merit! Roundup! NPK!

Re: Sex!

My rig is still going, fert and soil injections. Keeping an eye on that weather report.

Been a good fall here in NJ, but that will be changing soon.
