Mega Braid Eye Splice (Teuf/New England Ropes)

I am helping a bud splice large eyes in 1" dia. Mega Braid to be used as docklines. It's a 12 strand, single braid product that has what I would call a square cross section. I planned to use Teuf's "SINGLE BRAID EYE SPLICE (BURY)" instructions linked on their website. My issue is I haven't been able to pass a fid down the center. I tried a 21" push fid made specifically for 1" and a wire pull fid. The push fid was incredibly tight. Could only insert about half the fid length. The wire fid just couldn't "find" the center. I previously tried a length of 3/4" Mega and had no problem with it. The center opened up beautifully. I'm soliciting thoughts on what I'm missing. I don't understand the dramatic difference between 3/4 and 1 unless the 3/4 sample (supplied by West Marine) wasn't Mega. I kinda doubt that's the case, though. Perhaps I just need to make a smaller dia. fid but I don't want to shotgun this without a better understanding.

Oooo'boy.. those ones don't look fun.. i watch a 45 minute instructional on one of those the other day.. I was wondering why it was 45mins long, but every time i thought he was going to be done, it just went onto another step.. I there's a bunch of different tuck processes but this one i saw was frigging time consuming. It's was almost like basket weaving or something, definatley not what us Arborist would consider a casual splice.

What do you plan on doing?
 
I've spliced solid braid 12 strand that also has the tucking along the outside of the rope, without the center bury. Using something like the Point Hudson Fid. It helps to keep the twist in the strands as the slide under other strands.
 
The fid you have might not be big enough. I made various size ones out of galvanized water pipe. For 3/4” rope, I used 1/2” pipe, for the 1” you’re doing, 3/4” might work, if you have to make your own. Rigid cooper pipe might also work, it would have a thinner wall than the galvanized.
