measured and marked rope?

Just had an idea for a rope. They make ropes in different color schemes all the time so why don't we have ropes that are premeasured with the lenght wrote on them? If there are climbing or rigging lines out there like this why aren't they popular? I can think of dozens of reasons why this would be helpful. I understand with a rope stretching it will be longer but it will still probably be closer than guessing how high up you are or how big a piece you are taking.
Your thoughts?

It would be a bit of a logistical nightmare in production given the rope is made in continuous lengths then cut to size. How would they mark it? Ultimately it would be a marketing decision. How much more would it cost to make and consequently would the market bear the extra cost for something with a margin of error of 2-3%?

I know it would be hard to mass produce as cheap as making a 600 ft spool. I was just brainstorming. It could be incredibly useful though. I would pay a lil extra for rope that came marked. Especially rigging rope when your guessing how long the logs are for lumber. Its an interesting concept. I've marked climbing line before with permanent marker and it was unreadable after a month. Just wondering if someone has experimented with this also? I'm sure there is something permanent that could be applied after production.

Could try a clothing dye although it would be difficult to make clean "rings" around the rope without the dye bleeding and looking like crap. Not sure if a dye would affect the strength of the rope.

What would the benefit be?

How high in the tree are you?

Calculating volume while cutting a trunk section?

Logically marking footage 1ft, 2ft, 3ft, etc is not logical.
You could mark every foot with a hash mark, but it would have little value. IMO

This has come up before. The best solution that was shared was to use embroidery thread which has lots of fibers in it to make the markers. A pattern of colors could be developed in a code that could be read.

Create enough of a demand and I'm sure the one of the rope weavers would make it on a production run. If I remember right anyone can buy a custom weave pattern...if you buy a pallet box of 2,400' :)

Ah hah! That's it we're using color coded, marked and measured ropes all along. They're metric and SAE!!! Now if we can just decode them
