Mark's talk at New England Grows

Mark\'s talk at New England Grows

I'm just wondering if any one here was at New England Grows last week and if you happened to go to Mark's talk on climbing and rigging? What did you think?
What else did you enjoy at the show?

Re: Mark\'s talk at New England Grows

Yes, I was there and Mark’s talk (along with Todd’s) was the highlight of the show IMO. Mark’s easy flowing presentation style makes listening to him a joy. He presented slides of various rigging situations, such as the use of multiple blocks (to distribute loads) and DWT configurations (to gain MA), as well as how you should go about deciding what type of rigging plan you are going to be using. He also talked about forces and how to estimate reaction forces and loading on the rigging and anchor points.

He asked the audience questions to get us involved in the discussion and we in turn asked him questions, which he gladly and thoroughly answered. Some speakers can get thrown off their game plan when they get asked too many questions, but Mark gladly answered all questions. I tend to ask a lot of questions at seminars, because sometimes the audience seems to be hesitant about speaking, but I don’t mind yapping and Mark was great with that. I know that I could have easily have listened and watch slides all afternoon on the rigging/climbing.

Thanks Mark!

I was so disappointed to miss Todd's seminar on working with cranes.

I'm hoping to down load it from the NE Grows web site as soon as they get it on there.
Yeah I thought that Mark did an awesome job at keeping it down to earth and challenging at the same time. We need to keep each other thinking about tree work in the right light. I hope that some of the younger guys that were there got the seriousness of working with large loads and of rigging in difficult situations.
To many tree hacks out there giving arbor-culture a bad name.

Yeah, Todd's seminar was awesome as well. If you saw him speak at TCIA last Nov, it was along the same lines.

Like Mark, Todd is such a good presenter, that you really get a lot out of his talks.

Hopefully, they'll continue to do more.
