maple spots (tar spots?)

They're showing up on some sugar and norway maples. What exactly are they, cause, treatments. We pruned (thinned)them for better air flow. Leaves are raked and removed.

They really dont cause much of a problem just unsightly, however, i think if i remember correctly they are caused more by damp shaded condition, so i would imagine your treatment would suffice
