The word magnum comes from France. Magnums were big bottles of Champagne I believe, and the .357 Magnum etc. was named because of the shape and size of the cartridges resemblance to these bottles. However, I do understand the point of the original post.

Have you considered that perhaps Stihl chose the Magnum name to impart to the consumer that the Magnum version has extra capacity compared to the non-magnum version? And has it occured to you(and Leif) that perhaps the developers of the magnum handgun cartridges that you have referred to also chose the label "magnum" in referrence to the additional capacity that these rounds offered when compared to the non-magnum calibers that they were based on? Apparently not.

Besides all the logic that has been applied to choosing this particular label for enhanced capacity saws, what is wrong with a little machismo anyway? Unless of course you are feeling a little second string yourself, possibly due to a low testosterone level.

What is 'Friends'? Magnum PI was only popular with middle aged divored women and guys with boyfriends. If Stihl wanted Harry Callahan to sell saws, They would have put him in a commercial, on posters, even calanders. The Germans know sex sells, not Clint. The Dumbass part is right though. 'Friends' has no place in a treeman's life. The AV moniker must be due to the popularity of audio visual clubs in high school.

Because Europeans are pussies and cant handle the power, plus you dont have real American trees like we we do here in the pacific northwest. My climb saw is a 064 Ultra Magnum with a 36" elight and a ported 066 top end. For my pruning saw I find the echo 2511 Magnum To be far superior to the Stihl 150t. 200t is nice but my ported 355t is twice as nice at half the price. 038 reg 51 cc 038 mag 2 71 cc with triple port muffler, only available in the Pacific Northwest, and probably australia cause those F'ing Euc's are no joke and Aussies are also real magnum wearing mans. So pipe down Sven Troll and go chew on your Snus.

Hell, I argued with a window display mannequin for well over an hour yesterday because that mutherfucker was staring at my wife breasts. The 2 of us almost went to blows, but thankfully cooler heads prevailed..
