Magnetron Carabiner

I run a couple for rigging, don't really trust my life with them though. They are nice and quick to open and close.

Since you have to squeeze from both sides to open the gate I wonder if it would be suitable for life support for tree work. Hoping an someone with ANSI knowledge will weigh in on this.

The verbage in the Z133 is carabiners must have two distinct actions to prepare the gate for opening and be rated to over 5000 lbs. Looking at the specs it is rated for 24kN. Do you feel that this carabiner satisfies the gate opening requirement?

I've been using one of the captured eye models in my system for a over a month now everyday. It's attached to a tight eye on my climb line and connects to my hitchclimber.
Absolutely must press both in to then operate the gate. The fact that they can be pressed simultaneously doesn't negate the fact that both must be pressed. In my estimation that would qualify it as 2 distinct actions.
24kN is just under 5400 lbs. so it exceed the ratings requirement.

I've actually had debris work its way under one of the levers and prevent it from opening.

Treehumper - thanks for the comments. It sounds like you are comfortable using this carabiner for life support. Right? Can you elaborate a bit more about the debris jamming one of the levers? I agree, because both sides have to be pressed at the same time, it qualifies this biner as double action.

some bark got in under the lever. I had it choked and it somehow got in there. I used a paper clip to dig it out. It just has to be kept clean like any other biner. I like the ease of operation, no awkward positioning to open it when I need to . The concern raised about how it could be opened is addressed with the captured eye design.
