lurking women, care to introduce yourselves?

Towerbnny!

It's Rhonda. So glad you joined the Buzz! These ladies and gents on the Buzz are great.

Hey WOTTies- This gal does some crazy climbing on towers! Oh my gosh, I've seen the pics and the view is never ending up there. I'm use to looking down at branches, not metal. Somehow branches look a lot softer.

WELL then, maybe we need TowerBnny tto SHARE that with us

I look at some of the towers and wonder about them for a climb. what does it feel like at 300 foot with the breeze in your face.

ALSO that Metal below you - YUPPER branchs are softer.

Hi I'm Steph. I've dedicated my life to trees and fungi, mostly because I like working on organisms that don't have central nervous systems.

My background is in Botany-Urban Forestry and I have my M.S. in Plant Pathology. With my education it's sometimes difficult to get a field job (because I'm "too educated") and with my desire to work in the field it's sometimes a fight to stay out of the office! I figure I'll be willing to do office work when I'm about 50 or so, I have several years to go. I can't handle being an office-caged animal.

I've worked for two of the biggest tree companies in the US mostly doing PHC, which makes sense. I was working for another tree company doing all sorts of stuff (PHC, climbing, pruning, air spading, root pruning, research, GPS/GIS mapping, writing fact sheets, teaching in-house modules) until I was laid off in January 2009.

After applying for 90-some jobs since my lay-off things are finally starting to turn around and I'm having luck getting job offers (God bless you EAB!...sounds horrible doesn't it? But it's so true!)

I attended the MN Tree Climbing Competition to support several of my friends last weekend and it really got my heart pumping with the idea of getting in shape for the IL comp in September! I need to get climbing something bad.

Hello Steph,

WELCOME to the Buzz. great that you have seen a comp and cheered on the guys, maybe next year you can be in the RING, even if as a timer. Help is always needed.

this place is pretty friendly and we laugh and have fun.

Believe me, even after the age of 50 you will not want to stay in the office. (i know)

enjoy and do not be shy - post away or read and learn.

JZ - aka Shari

Hi, my name is Ambur and I just competed in my first TCC in the Midwest chapter. What a blast!! I work for a Parks and Rec dept, but mainly climb for fun.

Hi there! I'm Yvonne and live in south west Scotland. Apart from my interest in trees coming from living in the beautiful Scottish countryside and scrambling up and down trees as a youngster, my work also gives me a very close association with trees and tree care. We run a forestry engineering company which has worked closely with the forest industry since it was established in 1924, by my husband's grandfather.

We have recently started to supply the UK's arboricultural/tree care world with equipment and it's really interesting to see what's happening in tree care across the pond! It's also great to see that there is such a healthy interest in tree care by women. I had a day's climbing recently and it's not as easy as the pros make it look! Felt the effects for days afterwards!

I think I'm going to enjoy TB very much!

A second "Welcome to the Buzz", Yvonne!

Jump right in with thoughts, ideas, etc.

We're a wild AND diverse bunch of tree people,
but there's never a dull moment!

I'll be heading to Scotland one fine day.
I've got a lot of ancestry up in the Highlands.

Hi Diane! Looking forward to being a Buzzette!

You must pop in and say hello when you're across in Scotland - we're very easy to find. (That's an open Invitation to anyone that's visiting Scotland!).

Have a great day, Y

Hi Yvonne,

Great to see you on the buzz. Also good to see your from Scotland. I live in the South of England, in a place called The New Forest. My sister lives in Perth, so head up and down when I can.

Enjoy yout time on here.

Hi Josephine! Be delighted to meet you when you're heading up to Perth. We're only 15 mins off the main M74, so ideal for a coffee stop.

Just wondering ladies, for my next climbing experience, what harnesses/saddles are best suited for women? I used the Treemagic harness, which was fairly comfortable.

Y
