Love me some Bradford Pear, cat rescue

Liked the commentary, Now I think I'll go get something to eat and dream of a bucket truck with a cat walk.

I do backup once in a while for the Animal Rescue League, their team covers all Massachusetts animals in trouble in every situation so I help cover cats they can't get to or deal with. Had a call on Saturday they were chasing a "runner" cat in a street tree with major power lines running through the middle of it. They backed out, too dangerous with low probability of success. I headed to the address with my trap thinking that would be best. As it turns out a neighbor knew an arborist with a bucket truck. He got there before me. The bucket scared the cat so much it jumped out of the tree and ran off. Definitely a valid technique. Cat was ok.

I like your idea though!

Good job [emoji106]

I use an extra large sherrill bag with a cinch top, it works well. It is large enough that they almost just crawl into it, and if you have to force them some they can't spread eagle.

I have one for my rigging rope, I'll try it next time. Thx!
That is exactly what my bag's normal job is.

I have a cat rescue video on my YouTube channel (Climb High Tree Service LLC) where you can see me using the bag. I tried to clip out just that part and post it here, but it didn't work.

How long was that cat in the tree?
Here's a link to a story of cat in the tree for 10 days

Buddy seemed pretty cool, but if he bit you, that would lead to a serious infection requiring anti-biotics.. ANd the anti-biotics are now known to damage the microbiome which can lead to all kinds of health issues.... Very nasty stuff..

Probably better to give that cat a couple days to come down...

I've been bitten during a cat rescue, it's rare for it to happen, to me anyway. The best one was "rescuing" a pet squirrel from a tree! The family wanted to take a photo of me holding the squirrel, it bit me hard ;-) I grew up catching stuff, been bitten by many snakes (non-venomous), turtles, spined by catfish, etc etc. Try to avoid being bitten but it doesn't stop me from going after a cat. I do try to avoid taking antibiotics if I can. Had Lyme a couple years ago, antibiotics are the only way through that.

If a cat has been in a tree 24 hrs or less I recommend a wait and see. I was doing customer visits that day, the cat had been in the tree a half hour when I got the call. I was 15 minutes from the location. Elderly person and her adult daughter, upset about the situation, typical indoor cat with no concept of down climbing. Cat rescue is often more about managing the owners than about the cat. Kind of like tree work ;-)
