LOR autofeed issue

The chipper had a dead battery this morning , jumped right off but then autofeed was not working properly. RPM values stay in the 540-560 range despite actual engine rpms. Feed wheels will still spin with the autofeed switched on when at normal running rpms. Signal wire from alternator is connected.

Anyone ever have this issue before?

I haven’t seen that issue, but jump starting can cause issues sometimes, as can low battery voltage. Make sure the battery is fully charged, disconnect the battery for a couple minutes, and reconnect. That will reset the system, and may solve the problem. If not, look at the Hall Effect sensor that gives the RPM reading for the AutoFeed. That may be faulty, or could even just be dirty or out of adjustment.

I'll give disconnecting the battery a shot in the morning. I 'reset" the LOR but I don't think it does much but clear the settings.
Signal on mine is just a wire off alternator to the unit. Possible faulty alternator?
I have a new Autofeed Plus unit sitting in my shop. Just want to see if there's an easy diagnosis before I switch em out.

How does the alternator send the engine speed signal? Nothing on a normal alternator would track engine speed that I am aware of.

Is the alternator charging the battery properly? If it is, when the engine is running you should have around 13.5 volts at the battery. Anything less than 13, either your alternator or battery needs replaced.

It's fairly common to get tach readings off an alternator. I don't have the book for the LOR but the autofeed + manual gives instructions on how to program for alt or flywheel pickup.

Alternator is charging fine, reading 14.5 v on the gauge at idle
