Anyone know a Canadian dealer / supplier that sells a short felling bar/lever?
2:46 you can see it here. I have a jumbo one but I'm looking for one to slap on my harness for handling large logs while in the tree.

I've seen them at Universal Field Supplies in Mississauga but couldn't say if they are stocking them currently.

A guy I worked for had a nice short one for climbing with on a lanyard. That long Husky one is not very pleasant to have banging against your leg while aloft. I have found that a flat crow bar works half way decent.

About three weeks ago this same tool came into my head. I wanted a short one for in tree work and a longer one for ground cutting. After searching I thought about making one. All I needed was the ends of a leaf spring. Since the iron scavengers are active I set the DIY build aside

The next day at work one of the guys kicked something on the ground. Yippeee...an eight inch chunk of leaf spring!

There should be enough to make the in tree felling bar

Northern Tools had a good price on the longer one unless you were ordering from One of our sponsors and prorated shipping

That one looks perfect

How about undermining the Center of Gravity on the face cut? You may not need a bar at all.

Just what I was looking for! Thanks!

Probably nice for negative rigging big stuff, so you can put your saw away before the piece goes, without a huge notch??
Precisely! I often undermine centre of gravity but when the wood gets larger I like to be able to hold on without a saw in my hands if I'm in a negative rigging situation.

I think I know what you mean but would you elaborate or illustrate?
Tom, the idea is simply to make a deep face cut so the hinge wood is behind the center of gravity, rather than out in front. The placement can determine how easily the piece initiates its own movement.

I've personally found enough time to get the saw to my side and hold it with one hand while holding the stem with the other. But that's me, and the trees in my area. Not to say I wouldn't want something else in another part of the world.
